The design , fabrication , and applications of valveless diffuser micropumps based on piezoelectric actuation are presented . Three kinds of working fluids were tested: water, insulin and blood. The pump performance tests including frequency response, flow rate and output pressure were carried out at different driving signals. The results indicate that the pump performance for insulin and blood is lower than that for water because of the difference in fluid properties. The micropump which is able to handle insulin and blood has great potential in biomedical applications such as drug delivery microsystems for the patients with diabetes mellitus or in critical care. It can be used to precisely control blood sugar to improve the traditional methods. ( 許藝菊博士提供 )
